Fasting has become somewhat a forgotten subject in today’s church and yet it’s a practice which God’s people have done countless times in scripture and throughout history christian’s have carried out fasting. But although it’s good to fast to see God answer our needs, Jesus warns us that fasting must be done properly. The error of the Pharisees is they fasted to be seen by men as ‘holy’, and the danger of doing that today is very much real. So what is biblical fasting? What type of fasting causes God to act? In this section of scripture Jesus teaches not ‘if’ but ‘when’ the Christian fasts they must do it in secret and the Father in Heaven will reward them.
